In about 45 minutes from Caporciano, we arrive in Chieti, a capital city rich in historical and architectural attractions, where we can devote an entire day to visiting the historic center and museums such as the beautiful “Villa Frigerj” National Archaeological Museum or La Civitella National Archaeological Museum.<\/p>

Of extraordinary interest to insiders but also visited by schoolchildren is the Biomedical Science Museum, which is devoted to the biological and medical aspects emerging from archaeological and paleontological research, providing additional information and insights into historical and archaeological disciplines.

For enthusiasts, the possibility of visiting the Palazzo De Mayo Museum, which has inside its 23 rooms two permanent exhibitions of paintings and sculptures:

And many more are the attractions of Chieti. After visiting, you can continue from the city to many other destinations, both on the coast and inland. Our thematic itinerary today takes you, to Corfinium, near Sulmona from which, after visiting, you can return to Caporciano via Popoli.

National Archaeological Museum<\/strong><\/h4>

The rooms on the ground floor deal with themes related to ancient statuary and, in particular, the famous Capestrano Warrior. The layout of the room was curated by artist Mimmo Palladino. On the ground floor there is also a rich numismatic section and the 19th-century Pansa collection with heterogeneous objects. On the second floor are presented the artifacts found in the most relevant Abruzzi archaeological contexts dated between the protohistoric and early medieval phases – mainly necropolis and sanctuaries – and the visitor can, therefore, go on a discovery of the material culture of the Vestini, Peligni, Marrucini and Carricini.

Through the monumental staircase we return to the ground floor and continue our visit to discover the ancient peoples of Abruzzo by looking at the artifacts of the Sabines, Frentans, Equi and Marsi.<\/p>

National Archaeological Museum La Civitella<\/strong><\/h4>

The museum stands on top of the high ground overlooking Chieti, once a place of worship and acropolis of the city of Teate. The area was leveled in the mid-19th century to create a parade ground, later converted into a sports field. Research in the last century uncovered the remains of a sanctuary that included three temples from the mid-2nd century B.C. and the amphitheater, built in the 1st century A.D. on the same rise with drastic earthworks of older buildings.

The museum building, designed by architect Ettore de Lellis, was built with the aim of allowing for the proper protection, enhancement and enjoyment of the temples, amphitheater and artifacts recovered during excavations of the latter, as well as artifacts from the Vincenzo Zecca collection, the Antiquarium Teatino and archaeological investigations of Chieti and the Marrucina area.

The visit is organized into three different museum tours, called “The Beginning of Urban History,” “The Land of the Marrucini,” and “From Rome to Yesterday.”<\/p>

“The Foundation’s Art Collection,” which consists of some 50 works including paintings and sculptures moving from the 19th century to the present day among which, in the 19th century itinerary, works by Francesco Paolo Michetti stand out.
